A Lingering Winter

Late on a pea soup afternoon, the need to be in water became overwhelming. While Elena caused footprints on a beckoning and lonely trail, I slipped into a skin of rubber and into the icy grip of Lake Michigan.

Calming to hear the wash of the water against the rubber at my ears, feel the trickle of ice from my neck to the small of my back.
